Enemy VFX in Alan Wake 2

Over the course of development, I've been taking active part in developing various combat and enemy visuals. This includes setting up the basis for Darkness Shields that enemies need to have burned, the weak points of enemies and alike. Lots of those effects used Dark Veil blur system i have developed.

Of few notable examples, I've been at some point tasked with improving the blur on Shade enemies in Dark Place, which I did. I also created the special ability effects for them - a projectile and a dash.
The many-arms enemy was on a different level of complexity, and working on effects for it was... interesting, to say the least. The most "bombastic" thing I can showcase though is the wave attack that the enemy does.

Enemy effects were also iterated on by other members of the VFX team, so huge credits to
Johannes Richter, John McKenna, Matti Hämäläinen, Axel Furuvik, Pol Rius, Damian Olechowski
for doing their part, polishing my effects, laying ground for other effects and other collaborative team effort!

While the silhouettes of the shade enemies were made by Damian Olechowski, I did work on adding Dark Veil blur around them, tweaking Damian's effects in the process too.

Special abilities of the shade enemies were done by me - including the projectile and a dash, using Damian Olechowski's silhouette tech.

Gail and other enemies of this type were also dressed in my effects - from various water splashes to shooting wave of imaginary water.
