A simple effect, yet quite complex in execution. I was tasked with making the "end of the world" (or rather, "playable area") effect that would make the player keep walking forward... and somehow end up exiting in the same spot from which they started.
Sounds convoluted? Yes! My solution to this problem was to gradually blur and dissipate the world around the player as they keep going further... only for the world to start coming back and the player realising they are in fact walking back into the play area.
I used Dark Veil blur system that I made for the game, as well as custom spatial-based post processing to do an instant position and direction swap of the player character, unnoticeable due to the heavy effects.
There's no running away from DARK PLACE
