I was tasked with creating a screen droplets system. The system was firstly prototyped by my Lead, Johannes Richter, after that I took it over:
- Adapted the rain looks to Art Direction wishes, including implementing blur and scaling the behaviour of droplets, reinventing the look;
- Implemented the "Blood" part of it so I also used it as damage effects;
- Tied the droplet system with the Rain, to make sure both always work in unison (also with the blood...)
This effect was quite fun to make. Here are few unfunny curiosities:
- The system was called "Onscreen Fluids"
- The blood impacts splashed on screen use a texture that I made by... photographing a splash of soy sauce on a white plate at home, during remote work.
- The actual screen droplet particles are spawned underground and are rendered on screen via "rendering magic" (separate view)
One of the very first effect hitting hard from the start - droplets on screen, smearig the world similarly to Dark Veil, but naturally.
The effect prevails during the whole game
I also used it as blood droplets on screen, with deep red colouring
